SUMMARY:Kids Count: Juggernaut Pond Mammal Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling all kids ages 8 through 18 who love wildlife! Join Harris Center naturalist Susie Spikol to try your hand at field research and develop your naturalist skills. Together\, we’ll search the edges of Hancock’s town reservoir for tracks and other evidence of wild mammals\, recording our finds using cameras and simple collection techniques. Our data will then be submitted to the Hancock Board of Water Commissioners. \nThis will be a strenuous excursion on rugged terrain. Dress for winter conditions\, and come prepared with spikes or snowshoes (or borrow winter gear from us). For children ages 8 and up. Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an interested family member. Try your hand at field research\, develop your naturalist skills\, and do something to help the wild animals of our world by counting critters with the Harris Center. In June\, join Harris Center naturalist Susie Spikol and LAB GIRLS teacher Emily Wrubel for a chance to be part of NH Fish and Game’s NH Bat Counts project. Using click counters\, we’ll count bats as they exit and enter a well-known roost. You’ll need sharp eyes\, fast reflexes\, and a healthy sense of nighttime adventure. Be sure to check out our other Kids Count for Wildlife event in May\, too. \n8 to 9 p.m. at the Willard Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Antrim. Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an interested family member. All others can attend without parental supervision. SUMMARY:Kids Count for Wildlife: Red-backed Salamander Survey
DESCRIPTION:Calling all kids ages 9 through 18 who care about wildlife! Try your hand at field research\, develop your naturalist skills\, meet real scientists\, and do something to help the wild animals of our world by counting critters with the Harris Center. Together\, we’ll flip over special wooden boards at six different spots in the Harris Center woods in search of red-backed salamanders to count\, all part of SPARCnet — a long-term study of this common woodland species.
