SUMMARY:Easygoing Hike at Crotched Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join Harris Center naturalist Nikko Gagnon and longtime outing leader Ben Haubrich for a hike along Crotched Mountain’s Dutton Brook Trail\, which loops around an abandoned beaver wetland. We’ll be on the lookout for signs of the season as we move slowly\, making intentional stops to discuss natural history and other points of interest. Bring water\, and come prepared to walk up to 2 miles roundtrip. \n10 a.m. to noon at the Crotched Mountain Accessible Trails in Greenfield. Exact meeting location will be provided prior to the event. SUMMARY:Easygoing Hike at the Heald Tract
DESCRIPTION:Join Harris Center bird conservation director Phil Brown and avid hiker David West for an exploration of the Forest Society’s Heald Tract in Wilton. Our 1.5-mile route over mostly gentle terrain will traverse an area with beaver ponds\, a fascinating stone foundation site\, and a trail camera set up near an active wildlife corridor. Along the way\, we’ll search for signs of wildlife before looping through a recently harvested forest to see how both plants and wildlife are responding to the changing landscape. \n10 a.m. to noon at the Heald Tract in Wilton.
