SUMMARY:Saw-whet Owl Banding Demonstration for Families
DESCRIPTION:Note: If you attended a saw-whet owl banding demo for families in 2024 or 2025\, please choose “Sign up for the waitlist” above. If you did not see a family owl-banding demo in 2024 or 2025\, choose “Register now.” \nSmall enough to sit in your hand\, saw-whet owls migrate through New England by the thousands each fall\, offering a unique opportunity for study. Bring the kids and join the Harris Center’s saw-whet banding team to learn what owl banding efforts are revealing about this pint-sized bird of prey\, and to see a demonstration of the banding process. If any owls are successfully caught\, we’ll have a chance to observe as they’re carefully weighed\, measured\, tagged\, and released back to the wild. Please note that these are wild animals\, so we cannot guarantee that owls will show up for this event. \n8 to 9:30 p.m. in Hancock. Exact meeting location will be provided prior to the event. Space is limited\, and registration is required. In order to provide opportunities for the greatest number of people\, preference will be given to those families who have not attended a Harris Center owl banding demonstration in the past two years. \nIf you attended a saw-whet owl banding demo for families in 2024 or 2025\, please choose “Sign up for the waitlist.” If did not see a family owl-banding demo in 2024 or 2025\, choose “Register now.” \nFor more information\, including questions about accessibility\, contact Susie Spikol. \n\n \nOther Saw-whet Owl Banding Events\nTo meet demand for this popular event\, we’re also hosting saw-whet banding demonstrations on October 14\, October 29\, and November 4. \nLearn More\nWatch our video\, The Science of Saw-whet Owls\, for an in-depth look at our saw-whet owl banding program — or check out this two-minute reel to see the banding process in action. You can find other details about this project on our saw-whet owl banding page.
