The Science of Saw-whet Owls
Thursday, January 29, 2026,
5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Small, secretive, and nocturnal, the Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is one of the most elusive — and most adorable — owls in North America. Each fall, the Harris Center bands saw-whets on SuperSanctuary lands as part of Project Owlnet, an international research effort to better understand saw-whet population trends and migration patterns, with the ultimate goal of informing conservation efforts for this climate-vulnerable species. Join lead owl bander Hillary Siener and Harris Center science director Brett Amy Thelen for an overview of the Harris Center’s saw-whet migration monitoring project, and to learn more about this awww-inspiring bird of prey.
