Join Al Stoops for a paddle to scenic Spoonwood Pond, where we’ll beach the watercraft and head north on foot to explore White Swamp, the site of an old heron rookery. Expect to paddle 3 miles roundtrip, and hike off-trail through the woods for a half-mile, with an elevation gain of about 100 feet. There is also a short portage between Nubanusit Lake and Spoonwood Pond.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the Nubanusit Lake boat launch in Hancock. Back by 1 p.m. Bring lunch, a canoe or kayak, and a PFD for each person in your boat.
