The Harris Center in the Schools
This winter, Harris Center teacher-naturalist and musician Jazimina Creamer-MacNeil brought the magic of music and nature to every First Friends preschool in the ConVal school district. Through lively, original songs about chipmunks, moose, bobcats, and ducks, children sang, danced, and discovered the wonders of local wildlife in a whole new way. Hands-on encounters with mounts, pelts, antlers, and feathers made the experience even more immersive.
Every year, Harris Center teacher-naturalists work with more than 3,000 students in nearly 40 Monadnock Region schools, connecting kids of all ages to the natural world. Jazimina’s program is just one example of the education work we do directly in area schools and schoolyards.
Here is a short video of Jazimina, and musicians Dan Sedgwick and Marjorie Gere, teaching students from the First Friends Preschool at Antrim Elementary a new song about bobcats. (Good luck getting this catchy tune out of your head! 🙂)
