SUMMARY:Conservation Medicine & Winter Seabirds with the Center for Wildlife
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event was originally planned for February 14\, but has been rescheduled to February 15 due to a scheduling conflict. \nJoin Dan Gardoqui and Phil Brown to learn about wildlife rehabilitation through the lens of conservation medicine at the Center for Wildlife (CFW) in Cape Neddick\, Maine. CFW has treated more than 90\,000 injured and orphaned wild animals over the past 40 years and provides free medical care to 2\,500 patients annually. \nIn the morning\, we’ll take a private\, guided tour of the center and meet their animal ambassadors up close. Afterward\, we’ll head to the stunning rocky shores of Ogunquit and York — some of Maine’s best winter seabirding hotspots — to look for harlequin ducks\, purple sandpipers\, eiders\, scoters\, and more. \nThis Environmental Studies Institute (ESI) field trip will meet on Sunday\, February 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick\, Maine. Participants must provide their own food and travel. Space is limited\, and registration is required.  \nCost: $50 per person. (Fees support wildlife rehabilitation and care for CFW’s ambassador animals.) \nFor questions about registration\, contact Miles Stahmann. For all other information\, including questions about accessibility\, contact Phil. \n \n\n\nAbout Dan\nDan Gardoqui is a bird-curious mammal with a playful\, engaging demeanor and over 30 years of experience in bird language and wildlife tracking. He is a Certified Wildlife Tracker and Registered Maine Guide\, and served as Science Faculty at Granite State College and the University of New Hampshire. Dan was the science and audio editor for What the Robin Knows and is well-known for his uncanny bird mimicry skills and his Learn a Bird series on YouTube. Dan is currently the Education & Outreach Director at the Center for Wildlife. \n  \n\nAbout Phil\nPhil Brown is Bird Conservation Director at the Harris Center. Along with leading many local field trips\, Phil is a birding and natural history tour guide for both The Dreamcatchers and Lead with Nature. In addition to connecting people to the natural world\, Phil’s work for the Harris Center includes managing the Pack Monadnock Raptor Observatory and conservation projects focused on American Kestrels and Broad-winged Hawks. Phil lives in Hancock with his family. \n
