SUMMARY:Birding for All: An Accessible\, Inclusive Birding Outing at Glover’s Ledge
DESCRIPTION:By July\, many migratory bird species have nested and produced fledglings\, and from mid-July through early August\, both adult and fledgling birds need to rest and refuel for migration. Young forests play a vital role during this time\, offering cover and food in a kind of “jungle gym” for young birds. \nJoin Chris Liazos\, Phil Brown\, and Susie Spikol to learn about post-fledging (young bird) ecology on a 0.6-mile walk along the accessible trail at Glover’s Ledge\, Antioch University New England’s outdoor classroom. This hard-packed\, ADA barrier-free trail traverses level ground through young forest patch cuts\, offering a great opportunity to observe fledgling birds and other wildlife. This site is wheelchair-accessible. You can read more about Glover’s Ledge here. \nBirding for All outings are designed for people of all abilities\, including those who experience accessibility challenges as a result of a disability or other health concern. Beginning birders welcome! \nMeet at 9 a.m. at the Glover’s Ledge parking area at 212 Cheshire Turnpike in Langdon. Back by 11 a.m. Bring water and binoculars (or borrow some from us)\, and come prepared for sun\, weather\, and biting insects. Space is limited\, and registration is required. \nFor general information about Harris Center field trips\, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular outing\, including questions about accessibility\, contact Susie. \nCo-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education\, Antioch University New England\, and the Monadnock Bird and Nature Club.
