Harris Center Outings

Come prepared.

All Are Welcome

The Harris Center welcomes everyone at our programs, regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation, and some outings are designed with a specific group of people in mind. Learn more about the reasoning behind this on our Affinity Groups page.

General Trip Information

The following information is generally applicable to all Harris Center outings. If you have a question about a specific event, please contact the trip leader directly.

Dogs

Leashed dogs are welcome when hiking our trails, but for the safety and comfort of all our program participants, dogs are not allowed on our organized outings. Service dogs are an exception. If you would like to bring a service dog on a Harris Center outing, please contact the trip leader in advance.

Cancellations

All cancellations will be posted to the Harris Center’s online calendar. In general, for daytime events, cancellations due to weather will follow the ConVal School District’s decisions. (That is, if ConVal schools are closed due to winter weather, any daytime Harris Center events scheduled for that day will be canceled or postponed. If ConVal schools are open, Harris Center events will proceed as planned.) For evening events, cancellations will be posted on the website by 2 p.m. on the day of the event.

Winter Outings

If snow depth exceeds 8 inches, snowshoes are in order. If there’s not enough snow for a snowshoe or cross-country ski outing, the trip will be offered as a hike instead. Snowshoes, hiking poles, or ice traction are often available to borrow for Harris Center outings. To request any of these items, please call the Harris Center at (603) 525-3394 at least three days in advance.

Accessibility

If you have questions about accessibility or require accommodations, please contact Miles Stahmann at (603) 525-3394 or by email. For events taking place at the Harris Center, you can find accessibility information about the Harris Center building and grounds here.

Safety

Our outing leaders know the country, but are not paramedics! Please be responsible for arriving prepared — food, water, proper footwear and clothing for the weather and terrain — and read trip descriptions for difficulty.

COVID-19

Our most up-to-date COVID policy can be found here.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed at any Harris Center events.
