Macie Flammia

KSC Conservation Intern

A young woman stands in a greenhouse, holding a plant leaf almost as tall as she is.Macie is a senior at Keene State College, where she is earning a BA in Biology. She combines her love for both marine and plant biology through undergraduate research in the lab of Dr. Cynthia Hays, where she is studying the effects of depth and genetics on the elemental content of eelgrass. She also tends to the greenhouse on campus.

Growing up in the woods of Derry, New Hampshire, Macie has felt a strong connection to nature since childhood. She likes to spend her free time swimming, trying new foods, watching horror movies, and working with clay.

She is one of four KSC students who were hired in 2021 to conduct ecological research, assist with stewardship and environmental education activities, and gain specialized training and firsthand experience with many facets of the Harris Center’s diverse conservation and education work as part of our summer conservation internship partnership with KSC.
