Although visitors to the Observatory are welcome anytime, we also hold a number of special events during the hawk migration season. Every September, we host a Raptor Release Day, in which a rehabilitated raptor is released back to the wild just in time for the peak of the Broad-winged Hawk migration. In October, we gather for the “Big Sit” — a tally of all bird species as viewed from the Observatory. Harris Center talks and guided hikes to hawk-watching destinations throughout the region are offered all season long.
