Salamander Crossing Brigade Workshop

Zoom , United States

Every year, the Harris Center trains community scientists to serve on Salamander Crossing Brigades at amphibian road crossings throughout the Monadnock Region. Attend this fun, information-packed volunteer training to join their ranks – or simply to learn more about the remarkable spring amphibian migration.

Spring Tree Identification Walk

Beech Hill Beech Hill Road, Dublin, NH, United States

Join Mike Gagnon and Matt Tarr of UNH Cooperative Extension for a relaxed ramble focused on identifying trees and shrubs in early spring. We’ll look at branching, buds, and bark while the leaves are still off the trees, and discuss how each species functions as habitat for wildlife.

ESI: Transitions — A Nature Poetry Writing Workshop

Event Series Transitions: A Nature Poetry Writing Workshop
Harris Center & local field sites 83 King's Highway, Hancock

As nature makes a dramatic transition from the quietude of winter to the new life of spring, parallel changes may occur in our own lives. In this workshop facilitated by poet Brian Evans-Jones, we’ll explore this phenomenon by observing the natural world and writing our own poetry in a small, supportive group.

Nature Mandala Workshop

Harris Center for Conservation Education 83 Kings Hwy, Hancock, NH, United States

Join local environmental artist Sarah Wilson for this morning workshop to learn some tips and techniques for creating outdoor mandalas using only natural materials. Once we’ve gone over the basics, we’ll work as a group to make one large mandala, leaving our creation for others to enjoy as wind, sun, rain, and local critters slowly reclaim it.

Vernal Pool Project Workshop

Buck Meadow Conservation Area 32 NH-101A, Amherst, United States

Join Harris Center ecologist Brett Amy Thelen for this hands-on introduction to vernal pool documentation, with special focus on identifying amphibian egg masses.
