Take your photography skills and your knowledge of our local Odonata – dragonflies and damselflies – to the next level with wildlife photographer and “ode” adorer Frank Gorga. During our first session, we’ll review the basics of dragonfly and damselfly biology and discuss various approaches to photographing these captivating insects, including an overview of cameras and lenses. Our second and third meetings will be field sessions at local wetlands, where we’ll practice photographing these flying beauties.

This Environmental Studies Institute (ESI) course meets Wednesdays, June 5, 12 and 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harris Center and local wetlands.

Prior to the first class, participants will be given information about photography gear and tips on how to prepare for spending time outside around wetlands, with the possibility of getting a bit wet! If it rains, the field days will be re-scheduled, since dragonflies and damselflies do not fly in wet weather.

Cost: $80 for Harris Center supporters / $100 for all others.

Space is limited, and registration is required. For questions about registration, contact Miles Stahmann. For all other information, including questions about accessibility, contact Susie Spikol.

Frank Gorga is a former chemistry professor who has taken up nature photography in his retirement. You can see examples of his work at www.frg-photo.com.
