In Praise of Goldenrods, in the Garden & Beyond
Thursday, August 21, 2025,
7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- This event has passed.

Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home, says that goldenrod species are one of nature’s greatest gifts to the food web. As apex predators at the top of that web, humans are part of the picture too. While some goldenrod species are best left to roadsides and field edges due to their tendency to spread, others are well-suited for gardens — offering a true win-win for both wildlife and people. We’re all in this together.
Inspired by Tallamy’s work, presenter Francie Von Mertens took a deep dive into the world of goldenrods. Join us to learn what she discovered and get inspired for our Environmental Studies Institute course on goldenrods, coming up on August 28 and September 4!
7 to 8 p.m. at the Harris Center. Space is limited, and registration is required. For more information about this particular event, including questions about accessibility, contact Susie Spikol.
