Hear from three different women about their adventures with wild places and wild animals. Find out what it’s like to be an Antarctic researcher, a salamander guardian, and a wildlife artist who swims with whales and follows bears! Sign up for all three, or come to just the ones that interest you the most. Get inspired about the future and what you can do! Open to all girls+ in Grades 5 through 12.

Thursday, January 13: Life in the Cold: Could You Survive?
Meet ecologist Karen Seaver, who will share her experiences studying soil micro-organisms in Antarctica. Antarctica’s Dry Valleys are the coldest and driest place on our planet, and yet some microscopic animals persist in this most inhospitable environment. Karen will introduce you to some of these animals, including their incredible adaptations for survival, importance in their ecosystems, and vulnerability to a changing climate.

Wednesday, February 2: Salamander Brigades: How to Be a Community Scientist
Join us for a conversation with the Harris Center’s Science Director, Brett Amy Thelen, and find out how to get involved in local community science opportunities that can help you make a difference in the world. Discover the power of the Salamander Crossing Brigades and other wild opportunities in your own backyard.

Wednesday, March 23: Wild and Artistic: How to Draw on Your Interest in Wildlife
Meet wildlife artist Rosemary Conroy. See her vibrant drawings of animals and hear about her adventures watching bears and swimming with whales as a way to get close to her subjects. Find out how she followed her dream after being told she couldn’t.

All three programs take place from 5 to 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Free of charge, thanks to the generous support of the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation, the Bessie Foundation, the People’s United Community Foundation, and individual donors like you.

Space is limited, and registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Susie Spikol by email.
