White Swamp via Canoe and Shoe
Sunday, June 19,
9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Join Al Stoops for a paddle to scenic Spoonwood Pond, where we’ll beach the watercraft and head north on foot to explore White Swamp, the site of an old heron rookery. Expect to paddle 3 miles roundtrip, and hike off-trail through the woods for a half-mile, with an elevation gain of about 100 feet. There is also a short portage between Nubanusit Lake and Spoonwood Pond.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the Nubanusit Lake boat launch in Hancock. Back by 1 p.m. Bring lunch, a canoe or kayak, and a PFD for each person in your boat.
Space is limited, and registration is required. For general information about Harris Center field trips, including questions about accessibility, see our Outings Information page. For questions about this particular outing, please contact Al.
