Join nature writers from across New England to celebrate the natural world through words, action, and imagination.
Britt Crow-Miller & Susie Spikol
From 3 to 4 p.m., families are invited to explore the fascinating world of rot and forest magic with children’s book authors Britt Crow-Miller and Susie Spikol. Britt’s book World of Rot is a fascinating, humorous deep dive into the science and symbolism of decomposition. Susie’s latest book, Forest Magic, invites readers of all ages to connect with the wonder of the woods through hands-on activities and nature-based storytelling.
Vanessa Chakour & Owen Wormser
From 5 to 6 p.m., authors Vanessa Chakour and Owen Wormser will discuss nature and writing. Vanessa is an author, naturalist, former pro boxer, and nature educator. Her latest book, Earthly Bodies, explores the deep connections between personal healing and the natural world. Owen is a landscape designer and ecological gardener. He is the author of Lawns Into Meadows, a practical and inspiring guide to creating resilient, wildflower-rich landscapes that support biodiversity.
Lauren E. Oakes in Conversation with Jeremy Wilson
We’ll cap off the evening from 7 to 8 p.m. with a discussion on trees, forests, and our future with Lauren E. Oakes, facilitated by Harris Center director and forest ecologist Jeremy Wilson. Lauren is a conservation scientist and author of Treekeepers, a hopeful exploration of how people around the world are restoring forests in the face of climate change. She has written for The New York Times, Scientific American, and more.
