Salamander Crossing Brigade Volunteer Training

As the earth thaws and spring rains drench New Hampshire, thousands of salamanders, frogs, and toads make their way to vernal pools to breed. Many are killed when their journeys take them across busy roads. Every year, we train citizen scientists to serve on Salamander Crossing Brigades at amphibian road crossings throughout the Monadnock Region. These heroic volunteers move migrating amphibians across roads by hand during one or more “Big Nights” each spring, keeping count as they go. To join the ranks – or simply to learn more about the remarkable spring amphibian migration – attend this volunteer training in Nelson, the one at Keene State College on March 23, or the one at the Harris Center on March 25. (One training will do!) 7 to 9 p.m. in the Nelson Town Hall.
