Counting on Monarchs: An Introduction to the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project
Tuesday, June 23, 2026,
5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Does your heart fill with wonder when a monarch flutters by? Are you concerned about the decline of these beloved butterflies? If so, join monarch researcher Dr. Karen Oberhauser for an introduction to the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP), a community science initiative aimed at understanding and protecting this iconic insect throughout North America. We’ll review monarch biology, explore how MLMP data are being used to support monarch population recovery, and learn what’s involved in setting up a monitoring site of your own. Afterwards, join Harris Center ecologists for hands-on practice during our local MLMP survey days on July 23, August 21, and September 3!
5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. To get the login details, register here. Please save the confirmation email you receive from Zoom to access at the time of the event. Closed captioning will be available. For more information, contact Brett Amy Thelen.
Note: This event will be recorded. To ensure access to the recording, please register for this event, even if you cannot attend live. We will follow up with all registered participants when the recording is ready to view.
Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project.
