Join historian Alan Rumrill and naturalist Susie Spikol for a historical exploration of the old railroad station at Elmwood Junction. Take a walk back in time as we visit different parts of this important former railyard, and discover how the railroad helped shape the history of the Monadnock Region. This walk will be a leisurely stroll, with frequent stops to observe and discuss the site’s historical markers. Located along the banks of the Contoocook River, the trail is broad, with flat grades and some uneven terrain.
10 to 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Junction in Hancock. Directions to the exact meeting location will be provided prior to the event. Come prepared for sun and biting insects. Space is limited, and registration is now full. For general information about Harris Center field trips, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular outing, including questions about accessibility, contact Susie.
Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and the Historical Society of Cheshire County.
