Birdsong: this time of year, it’s the soundtrack of the outdoors. Join us for a four-week exploration of not only the biology of birdsong, but also how these tweets have inspired humans throughout time. Discover how and why birds sing, what scientists have sleuthed out about the meaning of these songs, how researchers can understand migration trends by listening to the nightsongs of migrating songbirds, how human music has been inspired by bird music, and how writers and poets translate birdsong into prose and poetry.

The class will meet on Tuesdays, April 20 & 27 and May 4 & 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom. Closed captioning will be available.

Cost: $40 for Harris Center supporters / $60 for all others

Instructors: Each class will be taught by a different expert, including biologist Steven Lamonde; birder and nightsong researcher Eric Masterson; Jazimina MacNeil, professional opera singer and lover of both birds and music; and poet and playwright Henry Walters.
