Environmental Studies Institute: Wild Foraging

Join Lucian Avery of Fox Paw School for a weekend of using our senses to explore our surroundings, ground ourselves in place, and discover May’s wild flavors. This class will offer a thorough introduction to eating wild plants from our local watershed — covering everything from field botany and plant identification to sustainable foraging, harvesting techniques, and food preparation. Most of our day will be spent in the field, with some short classroom segments and time in the kitchen.
This group meets Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dub Hub in Dublin and local field sites.
Cost: $250 for Harris Center supporters / $275 for all others

Lucian Avery is a father, a blacksmith, and a backyard wanderer. He lives in Hardwick, Vermont, where he spends much of his time getting to know his wild neighbors. He walks the hills, watching birds, listening to frogs, feeling the wind, and tasting the weeds. Lately he has gotten caught up in cloud drama as they evolve through the day. He also likes to make things for everyday life, like baskets, bowls, and chicken soup.
