In celebration of Keene Pride, join mycologist, educator, and writer Dr. Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian for a fascinating talk on her newest book, the national bestseller, Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature. Hear how the abounding queerness found in the natural world challenges our expectations of what is normal, beautiful, and possible. As Robin Wall Kimmerer shares, Kaishian’s “expansive view of life provides an antidote to the loneliness of our species.”

About Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian

Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian is the author of Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature (Spiegel & Grau) and the Curator of Mycology at the New York State Museum. She is also a teacher with experience ranging from outdoor nature education for children to college-level biology courses in maximum security prisons. Her research focuses on fungal taxonomy, diversity, evolution, symbiosis, and ecology, particularly of the less studied fungal groups, such as the insect-associated Laboulbeniales.

Patricia is a co-founder of the International Congress of Armenian Mycologists, which seeks to jointly protect Armenian sovereignty and biodiversity. She also studies the philosophy of science, queer ecology, and queer theory, exploring how mycology and other scientific disciplines are situated in and informed by our sociopolitical landscape. Her work, The science underground: mycology as a queer discipline, bridges the relationship between queerness and mycology.
