John Benjamin is a teacher-naturalist with the Harris Center, where he leads outdoor ecology programs for a wide range of students. While his fascination with the natural world began during his childhood in Colorado, it wasn’t until he moved to New England later in life that he became hooked on investigating the incredible world of fungi. He is especially interested in the diversity of fungi in the Northeast, and in foraging for edible and medicinal mushrooms.

George Caughey is a retired physician-scientist and amateur mycologist based in southern New Hampshire. He has stalked and photographed fungi for decades, with a focus on their roles in local ecosystems and a side interest in public health related to mushroom poisoning. He has led adult and school groups on mushroom-themed walks in California and New England, and given talks to conservation groups on fungal topics. As an avid contributor to iNaturalist, he and his family have traveled to England, Hawaii, Scandinavia, and Sicily in search of mushrooms. His publications about fungi include articles on mushroom poisoning and the history of foraging.
