Our SuperSanctuary of protected lands encompasses more than 26,000 acres, and it’s chock full of native biodiversity — from snakes to slime molds, moose to moss. We’re documenting as many of these species as possible via the community science platform iNaturalist, and we need your help to find even more! With the Harris Center as our home base, we’ll offer several guided walks and short workshops throughout the day, each focused on identifying and recording different taxa (birds, butterflies, trees, and more).

Festivities will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harris Center and nearby field sites; come anytime and stay as long as you like. Bring a bag lunch and a smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app installed, and come prepared for sun and biting insects. The BioBlitz will continue through Sunday, when you’re encouraged to explore our SuperSanctuary properties on your own, recording your finds via iNaturalist as you go.

Registration is encouraged. For general information about Harris Center programs, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular event, including questions about accessibility, please contact Nate Marchessault.

Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and Moosewood Ecological.

Be sure to check out these related BioBlitz events: a “Birds & More” outing with the Young Birders Club in the morning and BioBlitz After Dark: Moth Lighting for the night owls.
