Moth lighting — the practice of placing a bright light next to a white sheet and seeing who flies in — is an excellent method for surveying nocturnal insects. During this BioBlitz bonus round, we’ll set up sheets and lights, then use the iNaturalist community science app to identify and document as many moth species as we can. Prepare to be amazed by the diversity, size, and beauty of our local nocturnal insects! Wear long sleeves and pants, avoid bright clothing, and bring a flashlight, insect repellant, and a smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app installed. This program is designed both for adults and for families with children age 10 and up.

7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Harris Center. Space is limited, and registration is required. For general information about Harris Center programs, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular event, including questions about accessibility, please contact Nate Marchessault.

Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and Moosewood Ecological.

Be sure to check out these related BioBlitz events: a “Birds & More” outing with the Young Birders Club in the morning and the all-day SuperSanctuary BioBlitz starting at 9 a.m.
