Join Harris Center ecologist Brett Amy Thelen and John Kondos of Friends of Pisgah for a relaxed ramble along Pisgah State Park’s newly revamped Habitat Loop Trail — a 2.5-mile roundtrip route featuring stone walls, cellar holes, tranquil streams, and more. Along the way, we’ll take our time to savor the sights and sounds of the December woods, explore both natural and cultural history, and enjoy two wetland vistas.

Expect some roots, rocks, gentle ups and downs, and one short, steep stretch (9-degree slope for approx. 0.3 mile) on an old woods road. Dress for the weather, and come prepared for winter conditions with spikes or snowshoes (or borrow winter gear from us).

Meet at 9 a.m. at the Pisgah State Park trailhead on Horseshoe Road in Chesterfield. Back by noon. Space is limited, and registration is required.

For general information about Harris Center field trips, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular outing, including questions about accessibility, contact Brett.

Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and Friends of Pisgah.
