Late autumn is a great time of year to start learning fern identification, as fewer fern species are out and about. Take advantage of this quieter time by joining fern fanatics Michael Nerrie and Nate Marchessault for a primer on fern identification, where we’ll build ferndational skills that can then be applied to the full suite of fern species that grow in our region.
This workshop will include a presentation, a collection of live specimens, and a short easygoing hike to practice our newly acquired skills. Please note that while some of this hike will be on Distant Hill’s accessible gravel trail, we will also be going off trail to observe some fern species.
9:30 a.m. to noon at the Distant Hill Nature Trail in Alstead. Exact meeting location will be provided prior to the event. Space is limited, and registration is now full. For general information about Harris Center field trips, see our Outings Information page. For more information about this particular outing, including questions about accessibility, contact Nate.
Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education, the Monadnock Bird and Nature Club, and Distant Hill Gardens & Nature Trail.
