COVID-19 UPDATE: The Harris Center building will be closed to visitors until further notice. Our trails and grounds remain open.

Harris Center Outings in the Age of COVID-19

May 27, 2020

As parks, restaurants, and businesses begin to re-open throughout the Granite State, the Harris Center will also begin to schedule some in-person, outdoor events and outings. We do so with the utmost caution and care for our community, and will be taking the following precautions seriously.

Location

For now, we will be offering outdoor outings only. Indoor events will continue to be offered online via Zoom or YouTube, or postponed until such time as it’s safe to once again gather together inside.

Registration & Group Sizes

All in-person outings will be by registration only, with group size limited to 10 people (including the trip leader). In order to keep gatherings limited to 10 people or less, location information will only be provided upon registration, and registered attendees may not bring friends or family who have not also registered in advance.

Social Distancing

All participants are expected to maintain appropriate social distancing on Harris Center outings. This means staying at least 6 feet from any people with whom you do not share a home — including trip leaders.

Masks

All trip leaders and participants age 5 and up will be expected to wear face coverings. Masks are preferred, but not required, for children under the age of 5. If you do not have a face covering, please let us know in advance so that we can provide one for you.

Knowing When to Stay Home

Do not attend a Harris Center outing if you or anyone in your household is experiencing flu-like symptoms. If you must stay home, take heart: there is still plenty of nature to be enjoyed out your window, in your yard, or from your front stoop.

Trip Leaders

For now, in-person outings will only be led by Harris Center staff. We treasure our longtime volunteer trip leaders, and look forward to the day when we can once again enlist their considerable trip planning expertise. For now, though, in order to ensure consistent and strict adherence to these safety protocols, in-person outings will only be led by Harris Center staff.

We are monitoring COVID-19 developments carefully, and may change these protocols as needed. In the meantime, we very much look forward to exploring nearby nature with you again, safely and in keeping with the protection of the most vulnerable among us. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you.
