We’re excited to announce that the Harris Center has been given an opportunity to conserve the last remaining unprotected parcel along the popular Eastview Rail Trail in Harrisville. This 17-acre wooded lot borders the trail for more than 0.3 mile, and features a relatively mature mixed forest dominated by white pine, Eastern hemlock, red spruce, red oak, yellow birch, and red maple.
Since its opening in 2014, the 1.4-mile Eastview Trail — a joint project of the Harris Center and Harrisville Trails — has become a regular haunt of hikers, trail runners, horseback riders, mountain bikers, cross-country skiers, wildlife watchers, and anyone looking for a gentle walk in the woods. Protecting the “Eastview Land” would ensure access to, and preserve the character of, this tremendous recreational resource for generations to come, and add to a contiguous, 5,155-acre block of conserved lands in Harrisville, Hancock, and Nelson — ensuring room to roam for people and wildlife alike.
To permanently protect the land and trail, we must raise $15,000 by mid-April. To make a tax-deductible contribution in support of this project, select “Eastview Land Protection Fund” as the program for your online donation.
