Welcome to the 10th Annual Monadnock Region Solar Sprint!
On May 31, 122 students from seven different schools gathered at Adams Park in Peterborough for the 10th Annual Monadnock Region Solar Sprint, a solar-powered model car competition coordinated by the Harris Center. Students spent weeks designing and constructing their cars in preparation for the race, and a fun morning putting their cars to the test.
The following awards were given at this year’s competition:
1st Place for Speed: Caleb Cloutier & Carter Rousseau of South Meadow School
2nd Place for Speed: Marshall Roof, Kieran Norman & Jonah Frost of Keene Middle School
3rd Place for Speed: Koa Schutte, Rowan Holmes & Aiden Fauth of Keene Middle School
Best Craftsmanship: Draven Seppala & Kolyn Soviole of Jaffrey Rindge Middle School
Most Innovative: Katherine Craig & Avery Beard of South Meadow School
Best Use of Technology: Sullivan Gray & Aidan Cavanaugh of Saint Joseph Regional School
Kids’ Choice Award: Cody Beregnone, Preston Smith & Georgie Pananas of Saint Joseph Regional School
Junkyard Derby (a race between cars constructed from spare parts on the day of the race): Zach Coll, Eli Richardson & Gabe Paige of Saint Joseph Regional School
Many thanks are due: to the Peterborough Recreation Center for allowing us to once again transform the Adams Playground tennis courts into a solar-powered racetrack; to our cadre of skilled volunteers for keeping things running smoothly as racetrack builders, design judges, line judges, scorekeepers, and pit stop helpers; and to the competitors for an awesome day of solar-powered learning!
