Last August, a microburst tore through the Monadnock Region, leaving a narrow path of devastation running in a straight line from Keene to Hancock. Join us for an exploration of the disturbance at the McGreal Forest in Hancock, where we’ll learn about the storm’s impact on both woods and wildlife.

Join Dave Butler and Ben Haubrich for a moderately easy exploration of Frog Rock Road, an abandoned town road in New Boston. In addition to Frog Rock (a tourist attraction during the grand hotel era), this walk will include a glacial esker, a kettle pond, and an enormous barn cellar hole.

Grand Opening of the Jaquith Rail Trail

The Harris Center has been working with the Harrisville Trails Committee to open a 1.5-mile segment of old Manchester & Keene Railroad line to non-motorized recreation – including a challenging 50-foot gap that has now been spanned by a repurposed historic steel truss bridge. Join us for a ribbon cutting to officially open this newly completed trail.

Birding Pack Monadnock

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the most important bird protection law in U.S. history. In honor of this milestone, 2018 has been declared “Year of the Bird.” Join Meade Cadot and Francie Von Mertens for a celebratory, 2.5-mile hike at a leisurely birdwatching pace.
